that telepaths are able to read groot's thoughts. .... i mean obvi. like in the marvel comics during the trial of jean grey during the gotg and all-new x-men crossover, jean was able to read groot's thoughts and realize he had a complex way of thinking cause he's actually pretty intelligent! though still, rocket is the only one able to verbally understand groot! WHY AM I SAYING THIS? because i have a charles xavier rp account (that i'm on a lot more and love so much cause charles is my main squeeze both old and young hahah bYE) who i love deeply and i want to interact with more of the gotg crew sometime. even though charles is now irrelevan

groot isn't an idiot at all. his species has different structured vocal chords (thicker, i believe) which causes them to sound like they are restrained to say 'i am groot'. rocket can understand groot because his ears are able to catch the different pitch which he speaks in! so he's speaking other things and not just saying 'i am groot'. his vociferated conveyance is restricted to those three terms, but that's comic-canon background and not necessarily mcu. and he is actually quite bright and assists rocket with some gadgets and things.
